Full Description

Whitaker Road, No. 138, The Cedars. Built c.1868, probably to a design by Giles & Brookhouse. Particularly complete stables, outbuildings etc. Long the home of the junior branch of the Bemrose family, and subsequently the School of Occupational Therapy. (1) Classically designed two storey dwelling house, built c. 1868, with a slate covered hipped roof, modern soffit and fascia on brackets at the eaves. Plain sash windows in moulded stone architraves and a central doorcase with a Georgian style radiating semi-circular fanlight. Stone single storey canted bays on the right and left hand side of the entrance. Some 20th century extensions and original outbuildings. The house has been occupied by the University of Derby since the 1950s. It was probably designed by Giles & Brookhouse, and was for a long time the home of a branch of the Bemrose family. (2)
