Full Description

Uttoxeter Road, Rough Heanor, Borough Lunatic Asylum. (a) Very large institution in brick, with some stone and terracotta dressings, built round four courtyards. Fronted by a swagger pavilion containing a spacious great hall, with purpose-built chapel above, including decorative cast-iron columns and some stained glass. Designed by B S Jacobs of Hull, and built in stages from 1884 to 1914. (1)
