Milepost in front of George Hotel, Church Street, Alfreton, an early 19th century structure. Listed cast iron milepost outside the George Hotel, Alfreton, at the corner of Church Street and Chesterfield Road. The milepost is triangular in section, with 'Alfreton Parish' at the top, 'NOTTM / 16 / MILES' on one face and 'ALFRN / 0 / MILES' on the other. The milepost is painted white, with the lettering in black. The milestone stood on the Nottingham to Newhaven (Alfreton and Mansfield) turnpike road. Cast iron. Triangular section base with sloping head, bead fillet to edge and raised lettering.
