Full Description

Milestone on the north side of the old route between Buxton and Macclesfield. (1) The 1st ed. 25" OS map marks this milestone as 'Macclesfield 9, London 161'. (2) Presumably it had become badly weathered or damaged by the end of the century, as the 2nd edition records it as 'M.S. (Def)', ie defaced. (3) Turnpiked in 1759 where it was carried over the line of the CHPR by a small bridge. (4)
