Full Description

A cast iron milepost on the west side of Derby Road near Alton Manor. (1) A cast iron milepost with a triangular sectioned base. One side is inscribed 'WIRKSWh / 2 / MILES' and the other has 'DERBY / 11 / MILES'. Above is a sloping triangular top with an arched headpiece over, inscribed 'Allton / LONDON / 137 / MILES'. The milepost shows the manufacturer's name, 'J. Harrison / DERBY'. It is 20½" wide, 8" deep and has a visible height of 34". (2)
