Milepost. Mid C19. Cast iron milepost, triangular in section, with dished upper face inscribed 'PARISH OF PENTRICH J HAYWOOD JNR'. North-east face reads 'DERBY 11 MILES'. South-west face reads 'CLAY CROSS 7 MILES, CHESTERFIELD 12 MILES, DRONFIELD 18 MILES. SHEFFIELD 24 MILES. The milepost is situated on the route of the former direct turnpike route between Derby and Sheffield shown on Burdetts map of Derbyshire 1862-7.
