Full Description
The 1st ed. 25" OS map of c. 1880 marks 'Alton Colliery (Disused)'. Two kilns are named on the map, as is an engine house, a smithy, two clay pits, a sluice and two air shafts. (1) The 2nd ed. OS map indicates that all the buildings had gone by that time and the site is shown as rough ground with a few earthworks and a pond. (2)
