Building record MDR11795 - United Reformed Church, Alfreton Road, Little Eaton

The Independents have a chapel at Little Eaton that was erected in 1843. It is a plain stone building, lighted from the roof. (1) The 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880 shows an Independent Chapel on Alfreton Road, Little Eaton. (2) The chapel is marked as a Congregational Chapel on the 2nd edition 25 " OS map of c. 1900 and the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century. (3-4) There is a Congregational Chapel in Little Eaton that was built in 1843. It has 100 sittings. (5) Examination of modern maps show that the building has had substantial modern additions but is still in use as a chapel [2009]. (6) Looking at Google Maps Street View, the building is now [2011] a United Reformed Church (resulting from the union of the Congregational Church of England and Wales and the Presbyterian Church of England in the 1970s). It appears to have once had a porch to the front elevation that has since been removed and replaced with a window. The entrance is now to the side of the building. There has been a modern extension to the north. (7)
