Full Description
The 1st ed. 25" OS map c. 1880 shows a Primitive Methodist Chapel, London Road, Buxton. (1) The chapel was still in use at the beginning of the 20th century. (2, 3)
Examination of modern maps indicate that the chapel is still in use as a church. (4)
The Primitive Methodist Chapel is a handsome stone building, erected at a cost of £1, 689. It is lighted by stone-mullioned Gothic windows. At the main entrance, which is on the east side, is a very fine cut stone arch, with granite pillars. Behind the western gable are three vestries, or classrooms. The circuit minister if Rev John Teece. A Sunday school adjoins the chapel, affording accommodation for about 150 scholars. (5)
