Full Description

A restored ornamental well head was identified at SK 2817 5780 during survey in 2008. The stone built structure measures 1.2m high and is constructed from seven courses of stonework on each side supporting an overarching lintel surrounding a piped spring head. The water is piped into a stone lined basin at ground level. Above the lintel is an inscription on a single carved limestone block, which appears to read 'Wither Green Well, repaired by…May 30 1860'.
