Monument record MDR11941 - Lime kiln and quarry, Perrydale Farm, Peak Forest

A circular lime kiln with associated quarry, of probable 18th or 19th century date. The kiln is on the line of Wrangling Rake [see SMR 11669] and is directly associated with a quarry. It was probably used initially to create enough lime to burn off natural moorland vegetation at the time this area was enclosed. It was fired subsequently to produce lime to spread over the farm's fields to improve the pasture. The lime kiln is not marked on any available map. (1)
