Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

A circular rock-cut lime kiln with associated quarry pits of probable 18th and 19th century date. It was probably used initially to create enough lime to burn off natural moorland vegetation at the time this area was enclosed. It was fired subsequently to produce lime to spread over the farm's fields to improve the pasture. None of these features are marked on any available map. (1)
