Full Description

The 1st ed. 25" OS map c. 1880 shows four traditional farm outbuildings related to Blackbrook Farm. (1) Examination of modern maps indicate the buildings are still in use. (2) The traditional buildings are probably of 18th or 19th century date. They comprise of four outbuildings. The main outbuilding is to the west with two further buildings to the east and a one-storey traditional built shed to the south-east. The outbuildings are built of coursed sandstone with dressed details. The most westerly of the buildings is a long two-storey range with a one-storey offshut to the north. There are ventilation holes within the upper floor of the range suggesting it has been used in the past to store hay. The main part of the range is attached, to the south, to the former farmhouse, which is no longer held by the farm. To the south-east of the main building is a one-storey traditionally built shed that was constructed after 1922. To the east of the main outbuilding is a two and a half-storey high outbuilding. He eastern-most building is one and a half-storeys high. The current layout of the traditional buildings first appears on available maps in 1879. (3)
