Full Description
A circular limekiln and associated quarry, emptying hollow and spoil heap of probable late 18th or early 19th century date. As the load of the kiln was sorted to achieve the best quality lime it is probable that the lime from the kiln was produced on an industrial scale and sold on. The kiln is not represented on any available maps of the area but a 'well' is marked within its position on OS survey maps from 1880. It is one of four kilns (see SMR's 11682, 11684 and 11686) that were probably planned as an industrial complex. (1)
