Full Description

The Midland's Cowburn Tunnel was built c. 1894 and is noteworthy as having only one single air shaft in length of 3, 702 yrds. It is a square stone structure that measures 22 ft by 20 ft, visible for many miles e.g. from Castleton Road and it is nearly 800 ft deep. (1)
