Full Description

Brough House, Stretfield Road, Hope, an early 19th century building. 'Brough House is an early 19th century building of coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings and with stone slate roofs. It may have been associated with a former cotton mill by the stream.' (1) 'Brough House, Hope. Extant 19th century farmstead. The farmstead is of a dispersed plan with multiple yards and additional detached elements to the main plan.The farmhouse is set away from the yard. The site is located within or in association to a hamlet. with one or more of the structural elements dating to the 19th century All the traditional buildings remain extant.' (2-5) From the National Heritage List for England: 'SK 18 SE PARISH OF HOPE STRETFIELD ROAD 7/85 (North Side) 21.4.67 Brough House GV II House. Early C19. Coursed squared gritstone with gritstone dressings. Stone slate roofs with-stone ridge stuck and stone gable end stacks. Two storey, L- plan. South elevation of three bays with raised angle quoins. Central doorway with stone surround, keystone and flat bracketed hood. Flanked on each side by glazing bar sashes in stone surrounds. Three similar windows above. Listing NGR: SK1799682473.' (6)
