Full Description
A trig point is located on high ground on the north side of Whitwell, overlooking the surrounding area. It is marked on the 1875 Ordnance Survey map and it seems likely that the site was established for a land survey in the mid-19th century. The present concrete pillar was erected as part of the re-triangulation of Britain which commenced in 1935. However, it is in need of repair and no longer has the flush bracket near the base or circular plate on top. (1)
