Full Description

'Baths, Nottingham Road, were established in 1848 by Mr J C Topham and consist of slipper, shower, and swimming baths, neatly fitted up with every requisite, and which during the season are most liberally and deservedly supported. Mr Thomas Seavern is the proprietor.' (1) In a sale of 'valuable meadow and pasture land and other property' in May 1864, the lots which were adjoining 'the Mill Lane Road' included 'A substantial stone-built House, situate at Belper and known as The Baths, comprising large Swimming Bath, Hip and Shower Baths, well supplied with hot and cold water; Dressing-rooms, Closets, &c; and Kitchens, Sitting-room, and Bed-rooms for the manager; also a Garden belonging to the said premises, well planted, and containing by estimation, including the sites of the baths and buildings, 0a 1r 34p or thereabouts. This Lot is unoccupied, and immediate possession can be given'. (2)
