Full Description

Two shafts and some buildings on the 1st ed. OS map indicate the presence of a colliery in c. 1880. It may have originally been linked by rail to a tramway to the east [SMR 26227], but this is not clear. (1) The shafts are still named on the 2nd edition of 1900, as is a chimney. (2) The 3rd edition marks the site as 'Old Shaft (Coal)', indicating that the colliery had gone out of use by that time. (3)
