"The Church [at Ridgeway], dedicated to St John the Baptist, is a small neat building, on a declivity, and was erected in 1840 at a cost of £2,000, raised by subscription, aided by grants … It is a stone building, of unpresuming appearance, having a buttress surmounted with a cross, which holds one bell."
