Full Description

There is a Mission Church in the colliery village at Whaley Thornes [sic]. It was built in 1880. (1) St Luke's Church was erected at Whaley Thorns in 1878. It is a building of stone in the Early English style, consisting of chancel, nave and a western turret containing one bell. It has 320 sittings. (2) St Luke's Church was built in 1879 by J B Mitchell-Withers. (3)
