Full Description

A milestone is incorporated into the south end of the west parapet of a bridge over the River Goyt in Whaley Bridge. The photographs attached to the County Treasure record show the stone to be inscribed BUXTON / 7 MILES / STOCKPORT / 10 MILES / DISLEY / 4 MILES. (1) According to the 1st ed. 25" OS map, the milestone showed distances to London 166, Manchester 17 and Buxton 7. (2) The 2nd and 3rd editions only record the Manchester and Buxton distances.
