Full Description

There is a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel situated here on the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900 that is not present on the 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880. It has been extended to the east by the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century. (1-3) There is a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel on Corporation Road that seats 300 people. (4) The Church of the Nazarene was opened on South Street in 1940 [see SMR 21681]. In 1964 it moved to the premises of the former Wesleyan Church on Corporation Road, which was built in 1893. (5) Looking at Google Maps Street View, it is still in use as a place of worship by the Church of the Nazarene [2011]. There is a plaque on the front elevation, above the modern 'Church of the Nazarene' sign, which is inscribed: 'WESLEYAN CHURCH 1895'. (6)
