Full Description

Milestone on the south side of Chapel Road, to the east of Whaley Bridge. One side of the stone reads 'TO / STOCKPORT / 11 MILES / MANCHESTER / 18 / MILES'; the other side is damaged, with the outer surface having broken away. (1) The milestone is marked on the 1st ed. 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1880 and annotated 'Chapel en le Frith 2, Chesterfield 25'. The 2nd and 3rd editions have 'Stockport 11, Chapel en le Frith 2'. (2-4)
