Full Description
Milepost, Market Place, Wirksworth, an early 19th century structure.
Cast iron milepost, painted white with black lettering. The rounded top has 'LONDON / 139 / MILES' inscribed on it. One side of the body of the milepost is inscribed 'DUFFIELD 8½ / DERBY 13 / MILES', and below this 'J. HARRISON / DERBY'. The other side has 'NEWHAVEN 9 / BUXTON 20 / MANCHEStr 44 / MILES'. (1)
One of a near complete series between Duffield and Wirksworth on the old Derby-Manchester road. (2)
