Listed Building record MDR12957 - Boundary post, Derby Road, Brailsford
Type and Period (1)
- BOUNDARY POST (Georgian to Victorian - 1800 AD to 1900 AD)
Protected Status/Designation
Full Description
Cast iron boundary marker on the south side of the A52 just to the east of the Brailsford Brook bridge abutment. The post is triangular in plan with a sloping upper part rising to a back plate with a curved top. The top is inscribed 'COUNTY / OF / DERBY' and on the sloping part is 'PARISH / BOUNDARY'. Two sides of the triangular part are inscribed, one with 'BRAILSFORD / PARISH', the other with 'EDNASTON / TOWNSHIP' and below 'J HAYWOOD JUNR / PHOENIX FOUNDRY / DERBY'. (1)
The photograph attached to the listed building card shows the boundary post painted white with black lettering. However, the photograph attached to the County Milestone Survey, taken in February 2002, and Google Streetview, suggest the boundary post is now no longer white, presumably being covered with dirt and rust.
