Full Description

There is a Mission Hall situated here on the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900 that is not present on the 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880. (1-2) St Mary's Mission was originally built in 1880 at the junction of Station Road and Alvenor Street. It was in use for 15 years before the building of St Bartholomew in 1895 [SMR 21677]. St Mary's Mission was one of two 'Tin Tabernacles' in Ilkeston, and was one of the first missions to be set up by the Church Army. (3) The building has since been demolished [2011]. (4)
