Full Description

A gunflint was found in the early to mid 1980s (described in 1990 as 'several years ago') when an access road was being built for timber extraction in Endcliffe Wood, opposite Fernehough's works on the A6. Daryl Garton, of Trent & Peak Archaeological Trust, confirmed the identification and noted that the flint is probably earlier than the 18th century gunflints made from blade segments. The gunflint was retained by the finder. (1)
