Full Description

There is a Roman Catholic Chapel situated here on the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900 that is not present on the 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880. (1-2) The Catholic Church at Newhall, dedicated to St Edward the Confessor, was built by the Countess of Loudoun in 1886, at a cost of £1,500. The style is Gothic. It is built of red brick, relieved by Mansfield stone dressings. In the front gable is a statue of the patron saint. It is also used as a day school, which is attended by 130 children. (3) The chapel has since been demolished and the site has been redeveloped [2011]. (4-5)
