Full Description

The Wesleyans have a chapel at Newhall that was built in 1816 and enlarged in 1844. (1) The Wesleyan erected their first chapel in Newhall in 1816. The present one in High Street was built in 1882 [see SMR 26940]. A sect calling themselved 'Christians gathered to the name of the Lord' worship in the old Wesleyan chapel. (2) There is a chapel situated here on the 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880 and the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900. Presumably this is the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel mentioned by White and Bulmer above, although this is not completely certain. It was still in use as a chapel by the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century. (3-5) The chapel has since been demolished and the site has been redeveloped [2011]. (6-7)
