Monument record MDR13138 - Flint scatter, Green Lane, Melbourne

Type and Period (1)

  • (Early Neolithic to Late Bronze Age - 4000 BC? to 701 BC?)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

At approx. SK400244 is a large area of broken flint spread over at least an acre and very clearly visible when the crops are not too advanced. (1) The flint scatter lies on a prominent ridge and it has been tentatively suggested that it could have come from a ploughed down barrow [see SMR 31721]. Half of a broken loom weight, possibly of Bronze Age date, was picked up in this area in c. October/November 2011. (2)
