Full Description

There is a school here on the 4th edition 25" OS map of 1937-8 that was not present on the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century. (1-2) An unusual 'expressionist' building that was erected in 1939 as a Steiner School and designed by George Neames. It has a roughcast surface, and is asymmetrical with irregular shaped openings. Steiner Schools area very rare in the UK, and there are only about three altogether [in 1985]. The building is currently used as offices. (3) The building is still extant, although there have been extensions to the south [2012]. (4)
