Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

A typical example of Co-op store architecture of c. 1900. Surprisingly, the ground floor is not altered apart from the windows themselves. There is plenty of cut and moulded brickwork above. (1) The Co-op building is not present on the 1st edition 25" OS map of c. 1880 or the 2nd edition 25" OS map of c. 1900, but does appear on the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century. (2-4) It is still in use as a Co-operative department store [2012]. (5)
