Full Description
The 1st edition 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1880 shows two working 'Plaster Pits', linked by a tramway [SMR 16620] to the Trent and Mersey Canal, as well as additional 'Old Plaster Pits' to the north and south. Several Air Shafts are shown in fields to the west of the pits. (1)
By the end of the century, the tramway only ran to one of the pits (2) and by the early 20th century all the sites are marked as 'Old Plaster Pit'. (3)
