Monument record MDR13544 - Flight of steps, Hardwick Park

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

A flight of sandstone steps down the steep scarp of the lower of the two terraces on the slope below the Old Hall seems to suggest a division between the park and a garden laid out on the terraces. Two date stones are set on either side of the top of the steps. One is 16?? and the other 1859. The steps are worn and people have carved their initials all over the stones. (1) The flight of stairs appears at this location on the 3rd edition 25" OS map of the early 20th century. (2)
