Full Description
Town Quarry off Swinney Lane, Belper was one of a very few quarries in the Lower Derwent area which extracted Chatsworth Grit. Town Quarry was not listed by Farey in 1811, however it was known to have been working at that time. It probably was not mentioned by Farey as it is likely that rights were restricted to parishioners. (1)
A 'Town Quarry' is situated on Crich Lane, Belper on the 1st edition 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1880. (2)
Modern maps show the quarry has been filled in and become a public open space. (3)
