Full Description
The Old Vicarage, Intake Lane, Cromford, a late 18th century building.
'The Old Vicarage was originally known as The Vicarage and is a grade II listed building. The list entry suggests a late 18th century date but in fact the house probably dates from c1840. The neighbouring Alison House (previously Oakhill) appears to have been built between c1840 and 1842 and it is likely that they were conceived of as a single development, being of similar architectural style and sharing the same carriage drive. Both are of local gritstone with almost pyramidal slated roofs and have identical entrance doors and staircases. The Vicarage seems to have had secondary status in the development, lying in a smaller plot. However, its architectural decoration and the craftsmanship of its construction is superior to that of Oakhill. In addition, it has been considerably enlarged and is now of equal size to its neighbour.' (1)
