Monument record MDR13685 - Air raid shelters, Midland Street, Long Eaton

Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

There are two surviving air raid shelters on Midland Street, built for the LMS Railway Co's employees at Toton yard. The shelters are probably constructed from prefabricated concrete sections made at Stanton. (1) After comparing the concrete sections of this shelter with all known Stanton patterns, no match was found. Mr Reedman concludes that the LMS Railway must have sourced its shelters from a single supplier, as a similar shelter survives in a railway location in north London. (2)
