Full Description

Two former ponds were identified during survey in adjacent fields in 2012. Each pond has stonework remains at the north-eastern end. Water still runs through a culvert under the A52 onto the scheduled earthworks to the north-east. (1) The ponds are shown on the 1st ed. 1" Ordnance Survey map of 1836. However, they are not marked on the 1st ed. 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1880, indicating that they had silted up and gone out of use sometime between these two dates. (2, 3)
