Full Description

Moorfield Quarry was included in a report into the potential to re-establish the roofing slate industry of the South Pennine region. Three small quarries with very coarse pebbly rock and nothing flaggy or slatey. Nothing thin in the walls. Below there is a finer grained but massive rock. Slate no roofs in much finer grained. (1) There are two quarries shown off Kidd Road, Moorfield on the 1st edition 25" ordnance survey map of c. 1880. (2) Modern maps show the quarries as disused. (3)
