Full Description
Lumshill Quarry was included in a report into the potential to re-establish the roofing slate industry of the South Pennines region. Disused quarry in the Chatsworth Grit. Height of working face approximately 15m. Fissile beds approximately 1.5m overgrown. (1)
The 1st edition 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1880 shows quarries, including an crane, off Chesterfield Road, Matlock. (2)
Modern maps do not label the quarries but show extensive earthworks in the area. (3)
