Full Description

Riddings Quarry was included in a study into the potential to re-establish the roofing slate industry of the South Pennine region. Not visited. Old quarries around 2 hectares in size. Top of the Main Leaf of Wingfield Flags. (1) Quarries are shown situated to the south of Riddings on the 1st edition 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1880. (2) The 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey map of c. 1900 labels the quarries as Riddings Quarries and shows a stone saw mill. (3) Modern maps show Riddings Quarries as disused. (4)
