Full Description

First World War practice trenches, off Macclesfield Old Road, Burbage, Hartington Upper Quarter. First World War practice trenches were identified on Burbage Edge from a LiDAR survey commissioned by the Coal Authority in 2014. The LiDAR survey was carried out over the disused mine workings at Goyt's Moss west of Buxton. English Heritage (now Historic England) observed other features of a crenelated form associated with practice trenches. There are two separate blocks of features covering c100m north - south and c200m east - west. (1) The trenches were the subject of a topographic and photographic survey carried out in 2015. (2)
