Full Description

Richard Leaper built house with exterior in Roman Cement finish. Cast iron work on the house made by Weatherhead, Glover & Co. The building of the house is well recorded by Francis Noel Clarke Mundy of Markeaton Hall who was responsible for having the work done, though there was an existing residence on the site in 1806. From May 1807, Leaper appears to take over the work (paying the workmen) and the house that emerged from this process appears to be largely his work. Its use as a farmhouse from around 1840 after the death of Mundy's son who occupied Wheathills has meant that the interior is difficult to understand, due to constant adaption and re-adaption. (1)
