Full Description

Five stone buildings forming a hamlet, currently consisting of two farmhouses and three barns. Alport Castles Farm house is approximately mid-19th century with some elements possibly surviving from earlier. Alport Farm house was heavily altered in the 19th century but also appears to have preserved earlier elements. Similarly the barn to the west of Alport Farm appears to be a pre-19th century building modified in the 1800s. The barn to the south may also be pre-1800. Settlement on the site is first recorded in 1627 as four farmhouses, with five buildings on site by 1808. During the 19th century the site had changed to include five roofed buildings and one unroofed, though only the roofed buildings survive today. (1)
