Full Description

Former Pinfold Farm, Main Street, Great Longstone, an early 19th century building. 'Farmstead in Great Longstone, Great Longstone. Extant 19th century farmstead. The farmstead is formed of a loose courtyard with two sides of the yard formed of agricultural buildings. The farmhouse is detached with gable on to the yard. The site is located within or in association to a village. All the traditional buildings remain extant.' (1-4) An historic building recording exercise was carried out in 2021 in advance of the sites proposed redevelopment: 'The recording is comprised of four main buildings, with three buildings incorporated within an ‘L’ shaped wing and a small lean-to structure within the yard, built into the side of the adjacent eastern property. The origins of the site likely date to the early 19th century with the single storey portion of the western wing, though this building could date to earlier. The western wing was extended to the south with a two-storey building in the early to mid 19th century, with the northern wing constructed by the late 19th century. The main emphasis upon the site had been cattle husbandry, with the northern wing and single storey portion of the western wing functioning as cattle housing. The two storey extension to the south had a hayloft function, and may have also had cattle housing on the ground floor, though this is unclear. The site was redeveloped in the later 20th century as a builder’s yard, and this saw the construction of the eastern lean-to building.' (5)
