Full Description
Torr Farm, Grindleford. Extant 17th century farmstead. The farmstead is of a linear plan with three sides of the yard formed of agricultural buildings and additional detached elements to the main plan. There are tertiary elements to the main plan, incorporating a L-plan courtyard with three sides of the yard formed of agricultural buildings. The farmhouse is attached to the agricultural range. The site is in an isolated location. All the traditional buildings remain extant. (1-4)
The former outbuilding that was once a pigsty and a hen house was surveyed in 2007 in advance of its proposed renovation. 'The investigation concluded that the building had four phases of construction. The single storey lean-to and the piggery were later additions to the east end of the original building. The walls of the piggery were later raised in height, probably so the structure could accommodate a sloping roof.' (5)
