Full Description
Site of Brownhill Farm, Hartington Upper Quarter. Demolished 19th century farmstead. The farmstead was of a dispersed plan arranged as a cluster of buildings. The site was in an isolated location. All traditional buildings have been lost. (1) (2) (3) (4)
The demolished remains of four buildings, comprising the bases of walls surrounded by rubble. The rubble contains several chamfered stones which are parts of demolished windows and doors. The farm is marked on Burdett's 1767 county map. The farm was first recorded in 1640 (5,6), however, its origins may be substantially earlier. (7).
