Full Description

An apparent township boundary around Blackwell village, possibly Medieval in date. (1) This feature comprises a prominent lynchet up to c.0.5m high. It is not a township boundary but marks the edge of medieval access lanes within the medieval open field of Blackwell. The lane running parallel to the strips was in use in 1631 but was abandoned by 1825. By this date, the strips were enclosed and the lane defined by walls on both sides. (2).
