Full Description

Woodcock Farm (Woodcockroad Farm), Charlesworth. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. The farmstead is formed of a regular courtyard of L-plan and additional detached elements to the main plan. The farmhouse is attached to the agricultural range. The site is in an isolated location. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. (1) (2) (3) (4) The farmstead is of the Dispursed-Cluster form, that was common in the Dark Peak. The area was enclosed in 1813, and the turnpike on which it sits was created in 1821, so the farm must date from that period. What became a threshing barn was originally on the north side of three buildings forming a U-shape range, with the farmhouse just to the east. The western range had been demolished. The barn itself is on two levels and the number of blocked-off apertures indicates that it was originally used for livestock. (5)
